Compassion
When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment of all, His response was simple yet profound: “Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” For years, the church has done well in loving God and loving our neighbors when “neighbors” meant those who live next door. On more than one occasion, though, Jesus expresses compassion on those who look, think, and act differently; on those who didn’t live right “next door”; on those who were suffering from mental, physical and emotional illnesses. To love our neighbors as ourselves means that we address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of people regardless of where they live, what they like, what they believe, their economic status, country of origin, or religious background. While traditionally called mission and outreach we at Connexions call this compassion.
